In may 2017 when I started my internship for Murphy Empire, I also started working as an intern for RJ Condon of Rugged Coastal. Rugged Coastal is located in the Old Port on Center Street, sharing studio space with Murphy Empire (design) and Timber & Frame (video production). Rugged Coastal and Murphy Empire often work closely in conjunction on client projects. While working on hand lettering skills with Murphy, I also worked under RJ on client projects. I had the privilege of observing client based interactions/relations, and assisting in the processes of developing identities. During the internship process with Rugged Coastal, I have gathered that this studio promises to create identities that are equally functional and absolutely unique. Every mark is handcrafted from scratch, and must hold true to their core principles of originality and uniqueness. When executing identities it is emphasized to not always rely on the current trends but know how to make graphic design transcend, and the importance of that. Some of the responsibilities I had as an intern consisted of; designing spreads for a book, researching / concepting, assist in photoshoot set up and photoshoot, image editing, hand lettering, mood boarding, digital package design sketching.
